About Xavier School of Human Settlements
The Xavier School of Human Settlements (XAHS) develops and transfers knowledge about building sustainable, liveable and inclusive cities and communities. It also offers programs to develop planning and management expertise for public systems. Its innovative and unique programs are designed to create the professionals needed for sustainable urban and regional development in rapidly transforming geographies. At the core of its graduate degree and other programs are modules for hands-on learning, including in live projects with faculty and organizations engaged in policy development and impact evaluation, technical support and advisory with government, corporate and civil society organizations.
XAHS post-graduate Programs in Urban Management and Governance are designed for planners, architects, engineers, geographers, economists and others to prepare for a career in developing and managing sustainable cities, towns and other urbanising places.

The faculty, the students and the administration of XAHS and Xavier University contribute to the development of an organisational culture marked by esprit de corps, confidence, mutual respect, concern for others, hard work, progressive social values, and strong personal integrity. XUB promotes a collegiate culture that provides a comfortable environment for all students and helps them become confident individuals. The students of our full-time MBA and other programs, the working professionals who participate in our Executive and Management Development Programs, the research scholars in our PhD Programs and the faculty enrich the XUB community with their diversity and experience. The University welcomes top-level executives from the corporate sector, experts from abroad, NGOs, villagers and social activists who visit the campus for regular courses, Management Development Programs and the various training programs.
The two-year full-time Urban Management Programs (MBA-UMG) of XAHS is backed by the academic rigour and excellence that Xavier institutions are renowned for. In addition to the highly qualified XAHS faculty, others are drawn from across the Schools of the University, including XIMB, XSRM and XAHR. Students in the MBA-UMG develop all functional management competencies, plus an understanding of the urban structure, society and economy, and the systems of urban governance, planning and development.
Unique components designed to provide hands-on learning include the Urban Learning Experience (ULE Practicuum), the Summer Internship Program, live Capstone Project, and Studio and course assignments. Students specialize in one of four areas – Housing and Housing Finance, Water and Waste Management, Urban Mobility and Economic Development and Livelihoods, and Urban Resilience. Seminars, Conclaves and Leadership Talks by eminent practitioners in the domain provide continuous exposure to current knowledge and practice in the industry. Graduates of the MBA-UMG Program are employed across government, consulting, research and business organizations.

XAHS has a vibrant Doctoral Program with scholars researching a variety of issues in infrastructure development, urban and municipal finance, housing and affordabilities, urban mobilities, water and waste management, economic development and sustainable livelihoods, climate change and urban resilience, among others. Coursework in the Doctoral Program imparts rigorous training in knowledge development, research methodologies, and academic writing and publishing. Opportunities are available for teaching, and for national and international academic exposure through conferences and publications with faculty guides.
XAHS offers a range of open and dedicated Executive Development, Faculty Development, and Certificate Programs in infrastructure and services planning and management, water and waste management, decentralized sanitation and other areas.
